About Kim Schrier's congressional trading

Kim Schrier Stock Trading Profile | Quantellect Kim Schrier Stock Trading Profile

Kim Schrier's disclosures show a pattern that stands out immediately: every transaction in the record is a sale except two purchases, and every transaction is coded as joint or spouse rather than self. Of the 41 disclosed transactions dating back to 2019, 38 are marked joint and 3 are attributed to a spouse. None are attributed to Schrier under a personal, self-directed designation.

The activity is also heavily concentrated in time and in a single name. Sixteen of the 41 disclosed transactions involve Apple, more than a third of all recorded transactions, with a latest transaction date of March 22, 2022. Fourteen of those Apple entries are sales; two are purchases. Tesla is the second most frequently disclosed security, appearing four times, all sales, also last transacted on March 22, 2022. After that the list fans out into a long tail of one-off sales: Abbott Laboratories, Becton Dickinson, Brookfield Renewable Partners, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Cleveland-Cliffs, Costco, Cisco, CVS Health, Donaldson, Eaton, East West Bancorp, Alphabet, Honeywell, IBM, Jacobs Solutions, JPMorgan Chase, Lowe's, Lumen Technologies, Mesabi Trust, PayPal, and VMware, each disclosed exactly once, all with a transaction date of October 28, 2021, and all sales.

A single transaction date drove most of the activity

The October 28, 2021 transaction date accounts for 22 of the 41 disclosed transactions: 21 sales and one purchase, spanning 22 securities across nine classified sectors, with VMware unclassified. That one date alone represents more than half the entire disclosed transaction history. Combined with the four March 22, 2022 Apple and Tesla sales, these two clusters make up 26 of the 41 disclosed transactions. The three 2019 entries and the January 2020 Apple sale were each reported in the $50,001–$100,000 range, while a March 2020 cluster included Apple and Tesla sales tied to entities named in the filing as the Gowing Family Trust and “David's IRA.”

By transaction year, the count moved from 3 transactions in 2019, to 10 in 2020, to 24 in 2021, to 4 in early 2022, the most recent transaction year in this dataset. Purchases appear only twice across the full history, both with 2021 transaction dates: an Apple purchase in the October 28 batch and an Apple purchase dated July 27, 2021. Every other disclosed transaction, 39 of 41, is a sale.

Sector tallies drawn from the disclosed trades put Information Technology at the top with 18 transactions, followed by Consumer Discretionary with 5, Health Care and Industrials with 4 each, Financials with 3, Communication Services and Materials with 2 each, and Consumer Staples and Utilities with 1 each. One transaction, in VMware, carries no sector classification in the data. The technology concentration is driven almost entirely by the Apple sales; strip those out and the sector picture flattens considerably.

Several of the companies named in the October 2021 batch operate in businesses worth understanding on their own terms. Cleveland-Cliffs is a steel producer whose operations include iron ore mining and which serves automotive, infrastructure, and manufacturing customers. Mesabi Trust is a royalty trust engaged in the iron ore mining business. Lumen Technologies, formerly CenturyLink, is a networking company offering fiber, broadband, voice, and managed services. East West Bancorp is a bank holding company providing personal and commercial banking, including trade finance and financing for business transactions between the United States and Asia. Eaton operates as a power management company, while Honeywell works in industrial automation, building automation, and energy and sustainability solutions. Donaldson makes filtration systems and replacement parts. Jacobs Solutions provides infrastructure, engineering, and consulting services. On the consumer and healthcare side, Costco operates membership warehouses; Lowe's is a home-improvement retailer; CVS Health provides health and pharmacy services; Abbott develops and sells healthcare products; Becton Dickinson makes medical supplies, devices, laboratory equipment, and diagnostic products; and Bristol-Myers Squibb develops and sells biopharmaceutical products.

Taken together, the disclosed activity is overwhelmingly composed of sales and concentrated on a small number of transaction dates. All 41 transactions are coded joint or spouse, with none coded self. The dataset contains no transaction dated after March 22, 2022.

Disclosure and attribution notes

Transactions disclosed under a member of Congress may reflect trades made by the member personally, a spouse, a dependent child, or a jointly held account, depending on the attribution code in the official filing. In this dataset, 38 of 41 transactions are coded joint and 3 are coded spouse; none are coded as the member's individual account. Amounts are disclosed in statutory ranges rather than exact dollar figures, as required under the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act of 2012. Filing procedures and disclosure requirements are set out in the House Committee on Ethics financial disclosure instruction guide. Underlying filings reviewed for this profile are available from the Clerk of the House, including filings dated April 2019, March 2020, November 2021, and April 2022. This profile reflects disclosed transaction data only and does not represent a current or complete account of any individual's broader financial activity.
