Cluster data is derived from public SEC Form 4 filings (open-market transactions only). A cluster is a stock with three or more distinct insider buyers (or sellers) in the selected window. Not investment advice.

Insider buying clusters: when several insiders buy the same stock

A cluster buy is when multiple distinct insiders at the same company purchase its stock in the same window. Because several directors and officers are each independently committing their own money, cluster buying is watched as a stronger signal than an isolated purchase. This page surfaces the stocks insiders are buying most heavily: the top insider buying stocks where three or more distinct insider buyers (or sellers) traded in the selected period, with the total dollars traded and the individual buyers named. For the full open-market feed of every insider buy and sell, see Insider Trading Tracker.

Buying participation

Across the whole market, 30.0% of active insiders were buyers (5,361 of 17,863) in the selected window. Buying participation is the share of active insiders who bought: distinct insiders who bought divided by distinct insiders who traded. It is a cleaner read of insider sentiment than raw dollar totals, which are dominated by routine, compensation-driven selling. A rising participation rate means a larger fraction of insiders chose to buy.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cluster buy (insider cluster buying)?

A cluster buy is when several different insiders at the same company buy its stock within a short window, rather than one insider acting alone. Because multiple directors and officers are each independently committing their own money, cluster buying is widely watched as a stronger conviction signal than an isolated purchase. This page lists stocks with three or more distinct insider buyers in the selected period.

How many insiders make a cluster?

On this page a stock qualifies as a cluster when three or more distinct insiders traded the same side (all buys, or all sells) within the selected window. Counting distinct people rather than filings is what separates a genuine cluster from one insider making several purchases.

What does buying participation mean?

Buying participation is the share of active insiders who were buyers: the number of distinct insiders who bought divided by the number of distinct insiders who traded (bought or sold) in the period. It is a cleaner read of insider sentiment than raw dollar totals, which are dominated by routine, compensation-driven selling. A rising participation rate means a larger fraction of insiders chose to buy.

Are cluster buys a reliable signal?

Cluster buying is one of the more closely watched insider signals because several insiders are independently putting their own money into the same stock at the same time. It is context, not a recommendation. Clusters can still be wrong, and cluster selling is noisier than buying because insiders sell for many routine reasons. Always do your own research.
