About Pete Sessions's congressional trading

Pete Sessions Congressional Trading Profile | Quantellect Pete Sessions Congressional Trading Profile

In 2026 through July, Pete Sessions disclosed just two transactions: a sale of Ares Capital Corporation and a sale of Verizon Communications. That is a fraction of the disclosure pace seen as recently as 2023, when the record shows 72 transactions dated in a single year. The slowdown did not happen gradually. The quieter run came after a concentrated stretch of selling in late October and early November 2023, when the record shows sales of individual securities alongside purchases of short-term Treasury bills.

A first note on attribution matters before anything else. Of the 462 transactions in Sessions' disclosure record dating back to January 2013, 330 carry the "Spouse" attribution code, 130 are attributed to Sessions himself, and two are joint. That means the majority of what appears in his filings reflects trading activity by his spouse, not personal decisions by the congressman. Where this profile describes a trade as his spouse's, that distinction is drawn directly from the filing's attribution code, not inferred.

A Concentrated Selling Wave in Late 2023

The clearest inflection point in the record sits in the final days of October and first days of November 2023. Across two filings disclosed on November 7, Sessions reported, under his own name, sales of Procter & Gamble, Lockheed Martin, McDonald's, BlackRock Utility, Infrastructure & Power Opportunities Trust, Energy Transfer, Snowflake, BP, AT&T, Crown Castle, Warner Bros. Discovery, Apple, Microsoft and Ares Capital, several in the $100,001-$250,000 range and the BlackRock trust sale reported at $250,001-$500,000. Spouse-attributed sales of Chipotle and Verizon landed in the same window. One filing disclosed a November 1 Treasury-bill purchase in the $500,001-$1,000,000 range. The second filing reported the November 1 Apple, Microsoft and Ares Capital sales and, a day later, another Treasury-bill purchase between $100,001 and $250,000. Together, the filings account for a wide swath of the 50 sales and 22 purchases recorded for 2023. Taken together, they show short-duration government paper being purchased alongside sales across a broad range of sectors.

Treasury-security purchases and sales continued to appear through March 2024. A purchase of a Tomball, Texas security in the $100,001-$250,000 range appeared in August 2025, followed in October by a joint purchase tied to a Florida community development district. These untickered securities carry no ticker or sector classification in the underlying data and contribute to "Unknown," which is by far the largest single category in Sessions' sector breakdown, with 152 of the 462 transactions.

Recurring Names and Sector Tilts

Set against that backdrop, a smaller number of names recur often enough to stand out. Microsoft appears in 17 transactions (14 purchases, 3 sales), the most of any single company, with activity running through December 2024. NVIDIA follows at 14 transactions, 13 of them purchases, the most recent dated November 2024. Costco Wholesale shows 13 transactions, Verizon 11, Amazon.com 10 (all purchases), and Chipotle Mexican Grill 9. Ares Capital, the business development company that finances middle-market leveraged buyouts and growth capital deals, appears 6 times and is the security in Sessions' most recent disclosed sale.

The recent NVIDIA and Microsoft purchases have a distinct texture: both names saw series of small, spouse-attributed buys rather than one large purchase. Microsoft purchases in February, September and December 2024 were each reported in the $1,001-$15,000 range, while NVIDIA purchases in September and November 2024 were reported in the same range. Earlier spouse-attributed NVIDIA purchases appear in June, September and December 2023; the June and December entries were reported as precise amounts of $424.53 and $456, while the September purchase was in the $1,001-$15,000 range. A $50,001-$100,000 NVIDIA sale in May 2024, attributed to the spouse, stands apart from that pattern in both size and direction.

By sector, Information Technology leads the classified categories with 59 transactions, ahead of Consumer Discretionary (43), Financials (41), Consumer Staples (34), Communication Services (32), Health Care (26) and Industrials (26). Real Estate (16), Energy (15), Materials (11) and Utilities (7) round out the full list. The technology tilt is consistent with the Microsoft, NVIDIA, Apple, Salesforce, Snowflake and IBM names that appear in the record; the communications and real estate activity concentrates in Verizon, AT&T, Crown Castle and American Tower, with sales in each recorded by the end of 2023.

Recent filings are thin by comparison. 2025 carried just four transactions: a Johnson & Johnson sale and a Danaher sale in June, both attributed to the spouse, alongside the Tomball and Florida district purchases already noted. The two 2026 transactions disclosed so far, the March sale of Verizon under Sessions' own name and the July sale of Ares Capital attributed to his spouse, continue that quieter pace. The Verizon filing and the Ares Capital filing are both sales, extending a pattern in which recent activity has skewed toward sales rather than purchases.

Sessions' record includes activity in twelve calendar years, beginning in January 2013 and running most recently through July 2026, with year-by-year counts ranging from a high of 81 transactions in 2017 down to single digits in 2025 and 2026. As of August 21, 2026, Sessions carries a Quantellect Score of 64, placing him in the "solid" tier and ranking 28th in a 76-member scored cohort. As measured on August 22, of the 537 sitting members tracked, 276, including 237 of 437 House members, have disclosed no trades at all, which puts Sessions among a minority of members with an active, multi-year disclosure record to evaluate in the first place.

About this profile

This profile is built from official congressional financial disclosure filings and reflects only what those filings report. Transactions are drawn from periodic transaction reports required under the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act of 2012, filed according to the process described in the House Committee on Ethics financial disclosure instruction guide. Amounts shown are disclosed ranges, not exact figures, unless a precise amount was reported. Transactions attributed to a spouse, dependent child, or joint account reflect that attribution as filed and are not necessarily personal investment decisions by the member of Congress. Transaction dates are kept distinct from disclosure dates in this profile; dates refer to the transaction date unless a disclosure date is expressly identified. The filings document reportable activity but do not establish why a transaction was made.
