About Most Active

Most active stocks are ranked by total shares traded in the most recent completed session. Heavy volume marks where the market's attention and real money are flowing, and it often accompanies news, earnings, index rebalancing and institutional repositioning. High liquidity also makes these names easier to trade with tight spreads.

How to use the Most Active board

This board ranks by share volume, so the top rows are where the market's attention and liquidity are concentrated. Pair volume with the percentage-change column to see whether heavy trading is pushing a stock up or down, and use relative volume in the filters to surface names trading far above their normal pace. The Q Score column add quality and consensus context, and every active name here is liquid enough to trade with tight spreads.

Frequently asked questions

What does most active stocks mean?

Most active stocks are the names with the highest number of shares traded during the session. High volume marks where the market's attention and real money are concentrated, and it usually reflects news, earnings, index activity or institutional repositioning. Active stocks also tend to have tight spreads and deep liquidity.

How do I find the most active stocks today?

The table above ranks today's most active U.S. stocks by share volume from the latest completed session. You can filter by sector, market-cap tier, price and relative volume to narrow the list to the type of active name you trade.

Does high trading volume mean a stock will go up?

Not by itself. Volume measures activity and conviction, not direction. Heavy volume can accompany both sharp rallies and sharp declines, so what matters is volume combined with price action. Rising volume on an up move suggests strong demand, while heavy volume on a decline suggests aggressive selling.

What do the columns on this board mean?

Each row shows the stock's ticker and company, our Q Score (a 0 to 100 quality rating), market cap, the latest price, the percentage change for the board's timeframe, trailing 1-week, 1-month and 3-month performance, and volume. Hover over any ticker for a quick card with its sector, industry and quote, sort by clicking a column header, and narrow the list with the filters above the table.

Can I filter and sort the Most Active board?

Yes. The controls above the table let you filter by sector, market-cap tier, price, volume, relative volume, percentage change, trailing performance and gap, and every column header is clickable to sort. The board still only includes liquid US stocks, so whatever you filter down to is tradable rather than illiquid noise.

How is the Most Active board calculated?

We rank every liquid US common stock on the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX by its move in the most recent completed regular session, using the latest completed market data. Only stocks that clear our liquidity floor, a 30-day average dollar volume of at least $1 million, are included, so the board reflects real, tradable moves rather than thinly traded noise.

Is this Market Movers data real-time?

No. The ranking is based on the latest completed market close and is labelled with an as-of date, so you always know how fresh it is. It is an end-of-session view rather than a live intraday scan, and prices may be delayed.
